Gear cleaning, brought to your training facility.
A brief introduction to RedLine Gear Cleaning and the Mobile Extraction Unit®: NFPA 1851-compliant cleaning and inspection performed on-site, on a regular schedule, with gear back in service the same day.
Who we are
RedLine Overview
RedLine Gear Cleaning is a firefighter-owned and operated business that provides turnout gear cleaning, inspection, and repair services to fire departments across the country.
Turnout gear is protection, identity, and survival. Over time it also holds onto carcinogens, grime, and invisible hazards that put crews at risk. Regular cleaning, inspection, and repair is essential, and we built our service around making it fast, convenient, and disruption-free.
Verified ISP
The only Verified ISP to perform on-site gear cleaning and inspection. California’s only on-site gear cleaning service.

Step by step
How a Visit Works
From the first scheduling call to the moment gear is returned clean, inspected, and ready for action.
-
Pre-visit communication & scheduling
We start with a conversation to confirm the details that make the day run smoothly:
- Number of gear sets and preferred service date(s)
- Location logistics and point-of-contact communication
- Special requests, such as gear types or post-incident decon
- Documentation and reporting needs for compliance
You receive a detailed confirmation with all expectations and prep instructions.
-
Arrival of the Mobile Extraction Unit®
On the scheduled day, the MEU rolls up fully equipped for high-volume, high-quality gear care. Our crew, often firefighters themselves, coordinates setup with your point of contact so the unit is positioned efficiently and safely.
-
Gear collection & tagging
Whether gear is organized and ready or needs to be collected from members’ lockers, we work with you to do whatever works best. A strict tagging and tracking system means every set is:
- Separated into liners, shells, gloves, and hoods for proper washing
- Logged by firefighter name or ID number
- Tagged for service tracking
- Inspected for visible damage or urgent repair needs
-
Cleaning, inspection & repair
Cleaning
- NFPA 1851-compliant methods with our proprietary detergents
- Multi-cycle machine washing
- Removal of carcinogens, biohazards, and debris
Inspection
- Seams, closures, moisture barriers, and reflectivity
- Documentation of wear, degradation, or failure risks
- Recommendations for repair or retirement
On-site repairs
- Minor repairs completed immediately by our Mobile Repair Unit
- Seam reinforcement, patching, Velcro and zipper replacement, and more
-
Drying, final checks & return
Gear is dried in specialized drying cabinets that protect fabric integrity and prevent shrinkage or degradation. After one final inspection, each set is folded into an individual gear bag and placed in your designated area. The entire process is typically completed in one day, depending on gear volume.
-
Reporting & documentation
Your department receives cleaning and inspection logs per gear set, repair records and findings, and compliance verification with NFPA 1851 standards. These records support audits, budget planning, and long-term PPE tracking.
Your department also gets its own customer portal login, with real-time visibility into the cleaning history, inspection results, and repair records for every set, alongside the static PDF and Excel reports.
The on-site difference
Why On-Site
Our on-site model keeps gear in rotation, limits logistical headaches, and removes the administrative burden that usually comes with PPE maintenance.
You’re working with a team that understands your world, because most of us have worn that gear ourselves.
